Amazing Lionel #2113WSX 1946 Berkshire Freight Set/Brick OBs

This is the #2113WSX Freight Set that Lionel made in 1946. As we noted in our book, Greenberg's Guide to Lionel Trains, 1946-1969, Volume III, Sets, there has been much confusion about this set since Lionel pictured it including the never-made #2857 Semi-Scale Caboose in the 1946 Catalog. Most of these sets have shown up with the #2457 Red Illuminated Caboose with the balance put-together with modified Pre-War #2957 Semi-Scale Cabooses. We believe this example is a third late version of this Set (note the "X" rubber-stamped by Lionel after the Set Number on the Set Box. It includes the #726 Diecast Berkshire Steam Engine with Smoke Lamp, the #2426W Diecast Whistle Tender, the #2855 Black Sunoco Single Dome Tank Car, the #2460 Black Operating Crane Car and the #2420 Work Caboose with Searchlight. Our Opinion is that the Set is generally in Like New to Like New Minus Condition. The Original Set Box is probably the nicest example known (a brick 9/9+) and includes a crisp Price Sticker from Lots Brothers in the amount of $67.50 (in 1946 Dollars!). The #2460 Box needs to be replaced and one other box is missing an interior flap. Truly an example of this set that you will never have another opportunity to purchase in this condition. All Original in our Opinion. Please add $100.00 for US-48 Shipping and Insurance. |
